Frequently asked questions
Do my files get uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens inside your browser, on your own device. The PDF is never sent to SonhoLab or to anyone else, no copy is stored anywhere and nobody else can open it. That's why it works for contracts, invoices or documents with personal data.
Is it free? Is there a limit on files?
It's free and there's no account to create. You can convert as many PDFs as you want, with no queue and no watermark on the result. Since the work runs on your own machine, the only real limit is your device's memory with very heavy files.
Do I need to install any software?
No. It runs in the browser you already have, on a computer or a phone, and there's no extension to add. Only the first conversion of a scanned PDF downloads the text recognition model, which is then ready for the ones after it.
Does it work with scanned PDFs or photos of documents?
Yes. When it sees that a page has almost no text, it switches to optical character recognition. That first run takes longer because it downloads the model. The result depends on the scan: if it's crooked or blurry, you'll have errors to fix.
Will the Word file look exactly like the PDF?
Not exactly. The tool recovers the text so you can edit it, not the layout: complex tables, columns and images can end up somewhere else. If you need the formatting as it was, go through the document and fix those parts before you send it.
